Ghost Town... la genesi di un'idea. / Genesis of an idea.

L’idea di fare un documentario sulle città fantasma nasce da un viaggio negli Stati Uniti e dalla visita ad alcune splendide ghost town, quali Bodie in California. La scoperta di luoghi la cui esistenza umana è solo più impressa tra i muri della memoria, che frequentemente viene vissuta attraverso la finzione cinematografica, letteraria o pittorica, mi ha spinta a riflettere sulla precarietà di ciò che l’uomo crea, che talvolta viene distrutto e dimenticato. Il fascino di questi luoghi abbandonati mi ha portata a scoprire una realtà italiana composta di numerosi paesi fantasma e di storie tragiche di  morte e abbandono. Il distacco forzato tra l’uomo e la propria casa è una mesta circostanza che viene vissuta con tragico dolore. L’uomo se ne va ma ciò che ha costruito spesso rimane lì a raccontarci ciò che è stato. Le città fantasma non sono solo rovine in disfacimento dal fascino misterioso e decadente, ma anche luoghi di memoria che vanno raccontati, e ricordati.

The idea of making a documentary about ghost towns first came to me during a journey in United States, touring some impressive ghost towns like Bodie (California). The discovery of places in which human existence is now impressed only in the walls of memory, often experienced only through film, literary or pictorial fiction, led me to think about the frailty of what is created by man, which is sometimes destroyed and forgotten. The fascination of these abandoned sites led me to finding out numerous Italian ghost towns and their tragic stories of death and abandon. The forced separation between man and his home is a sad circumstance, lived with suffering. Man leaves, but what was built often remains to remind us of what had been. Ghost towns aren’t just mysteriously fascinating decaying ruins, but also places of recollection that must be narrated and remembered.
